What is Technical Theatre?

Technical theatre encompasses all that goes into making a staged production.  When you go to a play, the opera, the ballet, or even a concert you notice the people on the stage performing. You may also notice the lighting effects, audio effects, costuming, makeup, and the set the performers are on. All of these things are part of the world of Technical Theatre.

Technical Theatre I

Technical Theatre I is a hands-on introduction to the understanding, designing, crafting and execution of theatrical productions.  Our objective is to learn the basics of theatre terminology and to obtain the hands-on skills to properly execute basic theatre production.  We explore design, lighting, set construction, sewing and makeup to name a few.

Advanced Technical Theatre II-IV
Advanced Technical Theatre encompasses all upper levels of Technical Theatre. Students are independent learners who have proven to be reliable technicians and artisans. The advanced level of instruction may include scale model building, wig making, costume design/construction, face casting and scenic painting.

Tech Calls

Students in the technical theatre department often assist with other departments and outside performance groups. Some of the duties include light board and sound board operators, backstage scene shifts, makeup applications and front of house assistance.

Crew for Shows

We host open auditions for the Children's Theatre Show, Fall Show, Musical, and Senior Showcase.

At any one of these auditions all are welcome to fill out a crew application, which will typically be a Google form.

Students interested in crew DO NOT need to interview. Your application provides all the information we need.

Furthermore, you do not have to be taking any theatre classes to participate in shows, whether cast or crew.
